In our efforts towards the conservation of the sacred river of the Incas, we are very pleased to say that in these last few months several achievements have been made. To mention a few:
- Several cleanups of the Willkamayu river have been successfully carried out along the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and also some of its tributaries like the Huatanay.
- The celebration of the "Day of the River" was held on September 16.
- The recent foundation of the Comite de Gestion de la Cuenca del Rio Vilcanota.
- An important meeting among the mayors of the main cities along its course to discuss the river’s current situation took place earlier in November 1999.
- Moreover, last October 26 our initiative took part in the II ExpoAventura 2000, an event organized by the Asociación Peruana de Operadores de Turismo de Aventura y Ecoturismo - APTAE which was held at the Sala de Convenciones of the María Angola Hotel in Lima.
